blurb: JSX shown in the album hero (optional)
releaseDate: "06.11.2026" in the cover meta (optional; falls back to year)
     tracks: [ { n, t, run, hot?, links?, note?, image?, video? }, … ]
   }

   A track is just:
     n track number
     t title
     run runtime, e.g. "4:18"
hot true to accent it (optional)
links { spotify, apple, bandcamp, youtube, soundcloud } — any subset (optional)
note free text. A blank line starts a new paragraph. (optional)
image image URL — shown under the note (optional)
video YouTube URL — stored for reference, Watch button only shows if watch is set (optional)
watch true → Watch button on track row only
"main" → Watch button on row + featured embed above the tracklist (optional)

That's the whole annotation model: text, an image, a video. Nothing else.
A track with any of note/image/watch gets a "notes" toggle on the album page. */

outro: "Unlike Black Friday, this is once again me writing songs and putting them together based on how I felt over the previous year.\n\nThe extra-goodies for this album were four 360° panoramas shot by Klaus Friese: WGT Agra 2011, the bar from the Fistful Of Fuck You video, the recording studio from the Older Now video, and the hotel from the Inside Of Me video. They were displayed on individual webpages with links to the music videos embedded in clickable objects within the panorama.\n\nI wrote a little over 60 demo ideas and picked what I felt were the best ones. Of course from today's point of view I think I could do much better – but roughly a day after you finish an album and send it off to Spotify or the pressing plant, you already start to hear things you'd do differently. A bunch of internet idiots thought there was real beef between me and all the bands in the video. What actually happened: I contacted every artist, sent them a preview, and said \"hey, I'm making a music video where I would like you to be in it – but of course you can't win, because it's a Faderhead video.\" 100% of the people I asked were excited to do it.\n\nThe song itself came out of a \"10 Song Game\" – a creative exercise where I have 12 hours to write 10 song ideas, one per hour, no exceptions. The original demo title was \"Frontrow Fightclub\" – and as you can hear, I was yelling \"Frontrow Fightclub\" instead of \"Fistful Of Fuck You\" in that first version." },

In the early 2010s Skrillex made the metallic bass wobble popular and I couldn't resist using it, because I knew it would piss off the haters – and I liked it when used sparingly.\n\nThe intro sample \"This sort of thing has cropped up before. And it has always been due to human error\" is from \"2001: A Space Odyssey\". I usually re-speak movie samples for copyright reasons, but I guess I forgot. Human error, right there.\n\nThe song is about being depressed and confused and watching time run by as you do nothing – while coming up with excuses WHY you are doing nothing.\n\nThe music video was shot at the late Florian Sikorski's Maratone studios and featured Marc Acardipane, Shawn Mierez, my then-girlfriend Michelle, and Klaus Friese who did the 360° panoramas." },

I can honestly say nobody else sounded quite like this at the time – because of 4 things: 1) my nasal voice was very distinguishable; 2) I had storytelling lyrics; 3) the song structure was verse-chorus, not techno-buildup; 4) I wasn't afraid to use new sounds rarely heard in the scene.\n\nThis has very clear \"this is what happened\" lyrics about a night out as it was back then. The younger non-German crowds especially liked that. Most Germans didn't understand the English lyrics, and the older crowd didn't like them because they were \"too real\" and not \"poetic\" enough. Of course for them \"poetic\" meant overused words and children's rhymes like \"the darkness in me is all that I see, the clouds and the rain, I feel this pain\". I'm not even kidding.\n\nMy favorite line: \"The night was a blur of drinks, drugs and memory gaps. We got out the club with eyes like Google Maps.\"\n\nThe demo title was \"Cyber Tribe\", inspired by an old Stuck Mojo shirt I had worn constantly since 1996." },

Which made it very hard to be real with people.\n\nThe decade of crap that was dumped on me – along with going to therapy – ultimately made me much clearer on who I am and what I care about. So that's a win.\n\nLow-budget video, shot at Motel One Reeperbahn with my friend Kurak as the blonde girl and Shawn Mierez on camera. In 2011, I was dating a girl from Sweden who was also a model. One weekend Marco Visconti and I were sitting in a backstage room in Dublin with too much time until the show and only Guinness beer – which I don't like. So after an interview with a web magazine, I said \"man, you know what I would really like right now? A Swedish model – my girlfriend – and some cocaine.\"\n\nWe had a good laugh, but I always write down interesting lines when they come up. I made the song pretty much the next week after coming home.\n\nThe rest of the lyrics are three verses of normal touring stuff that everyone who has played shows internationally has experienced many times. Except for the chorus, I think the song is very interesting.\n\nLyrically it's \"hey, I am human too.\" I think that's pretty obvious." },

When you're the only person working on the music, you get no pushback from bandmates or a producer saying \"bro, this is not good enough.\"\n\nThe beat is a strange mix of a harsh electro lead synth and slide-y EDM bass that works okay but really dates the production to the early 2010s.\n\nLyrically this is about finding a home in places that are not normal or conventional – places where most people would say \"are you insane?\" That's why: \"in hell, insane, sick city rules today, when 1+1 is 3 I found a home for me.\"" },

Basically me saying \"hey, don't worry, everything will be good.\"\n\nDaniel sang the whole song and I edited the vocals as a back-and-forth. From today's point of view I wish I had let him sing the whole thing, but since I was emotionally invested in the lyrics, it felt wrong to have him sing what I wrote about my girlfriend. That's also why my vocals are the \"clean\" ones and he gets the \"radio\" voice with reverb." },

During the chorus, when the lyrics say \"I will let you break my heart\", I purposely chose synths that sound like someone screaming in pain (the note pitch goes up).\n\nThe song is called \"Ballad Of The Weak\" because my friend was always unable to be strong and move on, even though he knew there was only going to be disappointment waiting for him." },

outro: "\"Black Friday\" came out in 2010 and is a concept album that tells the story of a young woman and a Friday night gone wrong.\n\nOne of the things I always tried to do with Faderhead is deliver more than just a song or an album. For Black Friday there was always the plan to shoot a short movie showing the album story. From today's point of view, the movie comes across like a teenage soap opera – but the production quality was actually very high, especially considering we had a tiny budget of maybe 2000 Euros and none of us were professional filmmakers. Most of the work was done by my friend Oli Kühl and me. Brett Vanderburg helped write the script, and Marco Ribbe did most of the filming.\n\nMy first thought going through the album now: this is about 5–6 songs too long. The story reasons for certain filler tracks really don't matter much, because the story could have been compressed into fewer songs. But as I said – none of us were scriptwriters, and I had never made a concept album before. Today I would cut it by at least 30%.",

That's the noise in someone's head saying \"I have to get out of this dead-end job\" – but in the end they just show back up and work to the boss's beat." },

Most bands were either heavy with screamed vocals, or melodic with clean vocals. On Escape From The Machine I start with spoken mid-intensity vocals, then go to screaming, then to a melodic chorus. Not many scene bands did that.\n\nThe different vocal styles serve the story: spoken vocals = the repetitive grind; rising intensity and screaming = the \"fuck this job\" anger; melodic chorus = the release, the escape.\n\nSteve Naghavi from And One still lived in Hamburg back then and I asked him if he wanted to do guest vocals. He initially said yes, but the key didn't fit his voice. Unfortunately the album had to get done. Steve still played a guest-role as the champagne-drinking DJ in the Black Friday movie." },

The hot bath is the emotional turmoil; the cold razor is the \"leave me alone, I'm going out\" reaction of the boyfriend.\n\nThere is no suicide intention in this song. The goth scene was and still is terrible at doing collabs. For someone already very established to just say yes to a newcomer was genuinely rare and generous.\n\nI wanted two things: 1) to convey that Mia is drunk, high, confused, hurt and angry – switching between emotional states; 2) to have Chris' and my vocals blend so you can't always tell who's singing. I also liked the detuned synth leads Steve from And One uses, so I put one in the chorus.\n\nWhen I listen now the production is very dated – there's the ReFx Vanguard synth all over it, probably the only synth used except the sub bass, which was always Novation V-Station back then. Everyone used the exact same synth at that time because it was new and cool.\n\nThis is probably my least favorite song on this album. I think it has the weakest hooks of all 14 songs." },

The \"ohhh\" is both a cool melody and a reminder of the melt-downs: everyone would always go \"ohhh, so-and-so is freaking out again\". One of them (both considerably shorter than me) turned around and said mockingly \"Houston, we have a problem?\" – and when he said it a second time, he poked my chest with his finger.\n\nOne of the most effective ways to displace an opponent without breaking vital bones is to hit them straight on the sternum: it hurts a lot and moves them much more than you'd expect. So when he poked me, I hit him there. He flew backwards through the car and landed sideways across a seat, which hurt him considerably more than my strike. His friend ran off and left him there.\n\nI wish I could pretend I said \"Houston, we're landing in your fucking face\" right at that moment – but I only came up with that at home later. You can get that version on Bandcamp.\n\nAs most people know, 70% of the scene hated the song – which didn't matter, because every goth electro club in the world played it for years. We shot a video at the Zoe 3 bar in Hamburg over two days that looked like a commercial dance music video, which made the goth scene hate me even more.\n\nI can't tell you how many times some guy told me \"I really don't like Dirtygrrrls/Dirtybois, it's way too pop\" – only to run to the dancefloor when the song came on because all the girls went dancing immediately.\n\nIf you do things differently than everyone else, you will always get a lot of shit for it. And \"steroid-crazed bodybuilder, thin-skinned and vain\" has a double meaning – bodybuilders get literally paper-thin skin from steroids and diuretics, and they're also emotionally fragile.\n\nMy favorite thing: the chorus bassline is inspired by the Backstreet Boys' \"Everybody\", and the bell sound in the intro is inspired by Dr. Dre's \"Keep Their Heads Ringing\"." },

He said \"stop at the gas station, I need some coke for my ass\" – meaning Coca-Cola. We made jokes about the phrase all through the workout and recorded the \"you snort coke up your ass?\" monologue at the studio later. People think it's a movie sample, but Sadamune is the one speaking it with a fake Southern accent.\n\nMy favorite lyric: \"I got that 20-cycle-pound in my kick of doom\". Audio engineers call frequencies \"cycles\" – so \"20 cycles\" means 20 hertz, which is a very low, bass-heavy kickdrum. That explains why the person in the previous line is shaking her ass and the whole club is bouncing.\n\nStylistically inspired by Justin Timberlake's \"Sexyback\", which Marc Acardipane had just played for me." },

In reality this is a song about all the many harsh electro bands who straight-up copied Suicide Commando in the mid-2000s.\n\nThat's why: 1) The line is purposely in the wrong order – the original Suicide Commando is \"Bind Torture Kill\" and I switched it to show that people are just copying. 2) \"Copy paste and done, yeah, yeah it's time to harvest\" refers to bands trying to cash in on Suicide Commando's popularity.\n\nThe female backing vocals in the chorus were Dr. T and probably Shao-Lyn too." },

It doesn't sound like it – it's fast with hard kickdrums – but the lyrics use Hollywood movie metaphors to describe my emotional state after breaking up with my first long-term girlfriend.\n\nBack then nobody really paid attention to my lyrics, probably because they didn't expect a guy with a mohawk, a furry jacket and sunglasses to write anything worthwhile. So I'm going to go line by line.\n\n\"Every now and then the world is strange\" – About feeling disoriented. After years of a relationship, familiar structures are either gone or feel unreliable.\n\n\"Time to stop and re-evaluate\" – If you're familiar with Joseph Campbell's Hero's Journey concept, you'll know that the protagonist first exists in his normal world, then his world is disrupted and he gets the call to adventure, which he denies. This line is about having to figure out what I want in life – while referencing Campbell's concept of the hero refusing the call.\n\n\"Broken heart won't equal broken dreams\" – About distinguishing between emotional damage and long-term identity or ambition. Before this song I had taken a purposeful 3–4 year break from music to learn something real that could pay my rent. I remember sitting in my one-bedroom apartment thinking: maybe I can use this state of feeling like shit to go back to writing songs.\n\n\"Mr. Bond, find the real me, please\" – James Bond is probably the most famous movie character of all time and a completely unrealistic performance. Here I'm asking an over-the-top fantasy character to find authenticity – a strong contradiction. I wrote it because: 1) I didn't know who the real me was, and 2) I was thinking it'd be so much easier if I had no feelings, like James Bond.\n\n\"Critics wonder where the feeling went\" – Writing external observations about myself, because I was surprised by how crappy I felt and how little I showed it.\n\n\"E-TV reports 'The Passion's Spent!!'\" – How media would frame private loss by reducing a complex emotion to a simple headline.\n\n\"One of the days that never seem to end\" – The double layer of a 15-hour day on a film set, or the situation everyone knows when you're not in a good state and the day just drags on.\n\n\"And where the fuck is my script again\" – About having forgotten my identity and not knowing my role, my next action, my next sentence.\n\nThen the chorus. \"I am the protagonist\" – Reassuring myself that I matter in my own life. A defense against feeling discarded or irrelevant. \"Disarmed the bomb\" – Crisis management; the breakup is framed as something I survived or neutralized. \"Fucked the femme fatale\" – In Hollywood this is a cliché of sexual success showing the hero as powerful. I didn't feel very powerful at the time, so maybe I wrote it as a reminder. Or it just sounded cool.\n\n\"The credits roll\" – The ending of the movie, and acceptance that this chapter is over. \"Discover who we are\" – Only now that the movie is over does identity change, and we have to figure out who we are. We only understand what it all meant when we look back.\n\n\"Roll the camera hit the winning smile\" – An emotional performance begins again. Public display overrides private collapse. \"Take 15 – it's gonna take a while\" – Healing is slower than expected. \"Smoke machines can make it hard to breathe\" – Faking something on the outside while finding it hard to exist internally.\n\nThis was the first ever Faderhead track to get played at a club. It also helped get me a record deal – so it was definitely an important one." },

I used it as a metaphor and wrote this song about something in me breaking things down from the inside.\n\nThe breakdown doesn't happen from a single blow or crisis – it's an ongoing process that never really stops. I get weaker and things start leaking that I used to keep contained. I can feel myself wearing down in small, steady steps.\n\nI'm stuck living with it and watching it happen at the same time. The O/H Scavenger is part of me, deep on a cellular level, quietly breaking things apart. I change in ways I barely recognize, and the damage doesn't stay private – anyone close enough gets pulled into it, not on purpose, but because being near someone who is slowly coming apart leaves a mark.\n\nMusically, this is probably my favorite song on the album. We still play it live today – even though in a more ballad-y halftime version.\n\nIn 2003 I almost died from bacterial meningitis, and my short-term memory was affected by the brain damage. This led to the situation where a girlfriend I dated years later accused me of regularly lying to her, because I simply couldn't remember things I had said or that she had said.\n\nThe relationship didn't last very long after that." },

From today's perspective I would shorten the song by probably two minutes, because the intro is way too long – but that's how songs were back then." },

I mean – I had a mohawk and wore sunglasses in dark clubs.\n\nEven though the beat is bouncy, the whole song has a sad vibe. I always got that feeling from those situations." },

note: "A commentary on the extremely annoying \"trve goths\" I met often when I started going to goth clubs. Because I didn't know most people, they would explain to me how all the new electro stuff was just garbage and a \"degeneration of the scene\".\n\nThey would also constantly complain about how the party had become just about vanity and being seen – while they were covered in tons of makeup and wearing elaborate outfits.\n\nI used the historical phrase \"Rome is burning\" – the end of the Roman Empire – and changed it to \"the walls are burning\", referring to the walls of the club. But people are still dancing, just like the mad emperor Nero was playing violin as Rome burned.\n\nI thought I was being super clever, because the Nero story was factually wrong – violins didn't exist at that time. Just like the statement \"the scene is dying\" was factually wrong, because I could see 800–1000 people showing up at the club on Saturdays." },
